Froze my ENTIRE iPod!!!

Dont get! I have 3rd generation iPod & when I went to play it just showed the logo and froze! I couldnt turn my iPod of or change volume to I had to wait for the battery to die which took like 2 days! It Sucked! The home button was somehow disabled and everything!
